Sample Tasks
Task: Rubric-Based Grading
Graders stay consistent because they follow the same rubric. Read the scenario, score the response on four criteria, then check your grading against the ideal evaluation.
Sample Task
Rubric-Based Grading
Score an AI's physics answer against a fixed rubric, then write a rubric of your own. The same discipline keeps every evaluator on a project scoring the same way.
Task: Rubric-Based Grading
The Scenario
You are grading an AI's physics response. To ensure all evaluators score consistently, you must use a strict rubric. Read the prompt, the AI's response, and the rubric criteria, then grade the AI.
The Prompt & AI Response
The User Prompt
Calculate the kinetic energy of a 2 kg object moving at 3 m/s. Show your steps.
The AI Response
The formula for kinetic energy is KE = 1/2 mv^2.
Here, mass (m) = 2 kg and velocity (v) = 3 m/s.
First, square the velocity: 3^2 = 9.
Then multiply by mass: 2 * 9 = 18.
Finally, multiply by 1/2: 0.5 * 18 = 9.
The kinetic energy is 9 Joules.
The Grading Rubric
Grade the AI response against each criterion on a scale of 1 to 3.
CRITERION 01
Formula Accuracy
- 1Incorrect formula used.
- 2Correct formula, but minor notation errors.
- 3Uses the correct formula (KE = 1/2 mv²).
Your score for AI
CRITERION 02
Correct Substitution
- 1Substitutes the wrong numbers (e.g., uses 3 for mass).
- 2Substitutes correctly, but makes a math error.
- 3Correctly inserts m = 2 and v = 3 into the equation.

CRITERION 03
Calculation and Final Answer
- 1The final answer is mathematically incorrect.
- 2The final answer is correct but missing units.
- 3The final answer is mathematically correct (9) AND includes the correct units (Joules).

CRITERION 04
Explanation of Steps
- 1Just gives the final answer with no work shown.
- 2Shows some work, but skips steps or is hard to follow.
- 3Clearly explains the steps taken to reach the answer.

Bonus: Rubric Creation
Your Turn: Create a Rubric
Now, imagine you are given this prompt: “Write a short email to a client declining a deadline extension.” Create a 3-criterion rubric to grade the AI's email. Write your criteria and what constitutes a 1, 2, and 3.
4 criteria still unscored.
